brine for smoking turkey

Every year we smoke our own turkey for Thanksgiving and its done right in our oven. This is a little time consuming but worth it.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pickling salt
  • 1 cup mortons tender quick
  • 1 bottle liquid smoke flavoring (i believe it's a 4oz bottle)
  • - water enough to cover turkey

How To Make brine for smoking turkey

  • Step 1
    In a large container (I use a 5 gal bucket with lid) mix everything together, put turkey into the brine and cover with water if it's not enough.
  • Step 2
    after 24 hours take bird out of brine and pat dry, place in a 350*F oven for one hour then turn oven down to 250*F and cook turkey until its done about 3 to 4 hours.
