What if you had to choose your last meal? Would it be a burger? Maybe a taco? We say, why not both? The Smash-taco with “Mac” sauce is everything you love about smash burgers and Big Macs, but nestled into a warm, slightly charred tortilla. This is decadence on decadence and is quite simply a must-make.

Ingredients For smash-tacos with "mac" sauce

  • "MAC" SAUCE
  • 1/4 lg
    white onion
  • 1/3 c
    mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp
    sweet pickle relish
  • 1 Tbsp
    distilled white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    yellow mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp
    turmeric
  • SMASHBURGER TACOS
  • white onion
  • kosher dill pickles
  • 4
    wheat or corn soft tortillas
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter
  • 12 oz
    hamburger of choice, rolled into 3 oz balls
  • 4 slice
    American cheese
  • shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 c
    "Mac" sauce

How To Make smash-tacos with "mac" sauce

    First, make the "Mac" sauce. Grate the onion using a grater or microplane until you have 1 tablespoon.

    Mix the grated onion and remaining ingredients together and store in the fridge until ready to use.

    To make the smashburger tacos, dice the onion and dill pickles. Heat a non-stick pan to medium or medium-high heat. Warm the tortillas, one by one, on both sides. (A little char is great but not necessary.)

    Add 1 tbsp butter and melt.

    Place one burger ball on top.

    Spray the back of a big, sturdy, flat spatula with cooking spray. Press down on the burger until it is flat across the cooking surface and cannot be pressed any further. Do not be afraid to press firmly; the goal is to have the beef in contact with as much of the cooking surface as possible.

    Reduce heat to medium or medium-low. Cook until crispy bits start to form, a couple minutes. Flip the burger, making sure to get as much crispy goodness as possible. Add a slice of American cheese.

    Quickly add a warm tortilla. Cook until crispy on the bottom, a couple minutes.

    Scrape up the taco with a large spatula and flip onto a plate, tortilla side down. Repeat steps 2 - 7 for each burger ball. To each taco, add the shredded lettuce, 1-2 tbsp "Mac" sauce, onions, and pickles.
