Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons serrano chile, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 - avocado, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 - new york strip steaks, trimmed (8 ounces each)

How To Make spice-rubbed new york strip with avocado-lime sals

  • Step 1
    Preheat your grill to high.
  • Step 2
    Place the first 6 ingredients in a bowl; gently stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt. Set aside.
  • Step 3
    Combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, cumin, and the next 4 ingredients (through cinnamon) in a bowl; rub the spice mixture over both sides of the steaks.
  • Step 4
    Place the steaks on the grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 3 minutes on each side or until the desired degree of doneness is reached. Let stand 5 minutes; cut across the grain into thin slices. Serve with the salsa.
