Ingredients

  • 1/4 c
    red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    fresh lime juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp
    serrano chile, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1
    avocado, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt, divided
  • 1 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    chipotle chile powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 2
    new york strip steaks, trimmed (8 ounces each)

How to Make Spice-Rubbed New York Strip with Avocado-Lime Sals

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat your grill to high.
  2. Place the first 6 ingredients in a bowl; gently stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt. Set aside.
  3. Combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, cumin, and the next 4 ingredients (through cinnamon) in a bowl; rub the spice mixture over both sides of the steaks.
  4. Place the steaks on the grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 3 minutes on each side or until the desired degree of doneness is reached. Let stand 5 minutes; cut across the grain into thin slices. Serve with the salsa.
