An old-fashioned recipe that uses time to tenderize a tough piece of meat. When my kids were little, they just thought the sauce was made with ketchup, and never suspected the veggies.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
- 1 carrot, scraped and finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1/2-1 cup water
- hot cooked rice or egg noodles
How To Make shaker steak

Step 1Score the steak in a diamond design 1/4 inch deep on both sides; rub the flour on both sides of the steak.

Step 2Cook steak in melted butter in a large skillet over medium heat until browned on both sides. Add the onion and the next 3 ingredients; sprinkle with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

Step 3Combine the ketchup and 1/2 cup of water; pour over the meat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until the steak is tender. Add an additional 1/2 cup of water if needed. Serve over rice or noodles.
