Ingredients
- 1 pound live mussels
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 2 cups crushed tomatoes
- salt and pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped
- 8 ounces spaghetti
How To Make spaghetti with mussels

Step 1Soak the mussels in cold salted water for 20 minutes to purge them. Scrub them to remove the beard on the outside. Discard any broken or open mussels. Heat the oil over med high heat. Add the garlic and let cook 1 minute. Add the mussels and wine. Cover and cook until mussels have opened. Remove the mussels with slotted spoon and set aside. Discard any that hasn't opened.

Step 2Bring the cooking liquid back to a boil. Add the tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes. Meanwhile bring a pot of water to a boil and add salt. Cook the spaghetti until al dente

Step 3Add a ladle of pasta water to the tomato sauce. Add the mussels and basil to the sauce. With tongs transfer the spaghetti from the water to the sauce. Cook for 2 minutes.

Step 4Remove from heat and serve.
