This was my dear friend Terri Carter's recipe. I changed it a little to suit my tastes.

Ingredients

1 lb
raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/3 c
olive oil
1/4 c
all purpose flour
1 c
hot water
1/2 c
chopped onion
1/2 c
chopped celery
1/4 c
chopped green bell pepper
1 tsp
garlic salt
1/4 tsp
thyme
1/4 tsp
cayenne
8 oz
tomato sauce
1
bay leaf
1/8 tsp
pepper
4 c
cooked rice
1/2 tsp
lemon juice

How to Make Shrimp Creole

Step-by-Step

  • 1Heat oil in skillet over medium high heat.
  • 2Blend in flour, stirring constantly until lightly browned.
  • 3Add water gradually. Cook stirring constantly until thickened.
  • 4Add onion, bell pepper and celery and cook 2 minutes.
  • 5Add remaining ingredients except shrimp and rice. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.
  • 6Add shrimp and cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes until shrimp is done.
  • 7Remove bay leaf.
  • 8Serve over the hot cooked rice.
