Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups rice or rice noodles
  • 3 tablespoons each soy sauce and tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger grated
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 pounds jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • fresh cilantro

How To Make malaysian style sweet chili shrimp

  • Step 1
    Cook the rice or noodles according to package directions. Meanwhile whisk together the soy sauce, tomato paste, chili garlic sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and 1 cup of water. set aside.
  • Step 2
    Place oil in a large skillet. Heat the olive oil over med high heat. Add the onion, garlic and ginger. Cook about 5 minutes. Add the soy sauce mixture. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
  • Step 3
    Add the shrimp and cook another 3 to 4 minutes until shrimp are pink. Serve the shrimp and sauce over the rice or noodles and garnish with green onions and cilantro
