There are other bierock recipes posted here, but none call for bacon. The bacon adds a whole other level of flavor. I truly believe you will find this to be extra delicious! A former in-law was originally from Germany, and she taught me how to make this. Our family loves it, and I hope your family will, too. Please let me know..........thx!!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage (cored and chopped)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1-1/2 pound hamburger
  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
  • 2 or 3 - loaves frozen bread dough (thawed and risen)
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make yummy bierock

  • Step 1
    Brown hamburger, bacon, and onion together.
  • Step 2
    add cabbage (and if necessary 3 Tbsp. Water).
  • Step 3
    Cover tightly and Steam till cabbage is wilted and soft. Stir frequently, and add more water if necessary.
  • Step 4
    pinch off enough dough to make 6 bierock per loaf. Flatten dough, and fill with cabbage filling. Pinch and seal dough, placing seam side down into baking pan.
  • Step 5
    bake at 350 degrees till bread is golden brown.
  • Step 6
    brush tops of bierock with melted butter.
