Ingredients
- PLAN/PURCHASE
- 1/2 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 medium yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 medium green bell pepper, seeded and diced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, kosher variety, or to taste
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup filtered water
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
- THE SANDWICH
- 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
- 6 slices good firm bread
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
How To Make sloppy joe grilled cheese sandwich

Step 2THE SLOPPY JOE MIX

Step 3Gather your ingredients.

Step 4Add the ground beef, sausage, and onion to a skillet over medium heat.

Step 5Cook until the onions begin to soften, and the protein has almost cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 6Chef’s Note: Use a wooden spoon to break the meat into small pieces.

Step 7Drain off any excess grease.

Step 8Add the green bell pepper, and garlic.

Step 9Cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 10Add the tomato paste, and stir to incorporate.

Step 11Add the remainder of the ingredients

Step 12Stir to thoroughly combine.

Step 13Allow the mixture to lightly simmer until the sauce begins to reduce and thicken, about 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 14Remove from heat, and allow it to cool.

Step 15THE SANDWICH

Step 16Gather your ingredients.

Step 17Brush the mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.

Step 18Add some of the cheese to one of the slices (the side without the mayo).

Step 19Add some of the sloppy Joe mix on top.

Step 20Add more cheese to the top.

Step 21Finish with the top slice of bread (mayo side out).

Step 22Place the sandwich into a skillet over medium heat.

Step 23Flip after about 90 seconds.

Step 24Continue to flip every 90 seconds until both sides are nice and brown, about 5 or 6 flips.
