You could also add in diced green peppers to the onion and mushroom saute if you like those on it!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 4 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 pound shaved steak
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • hoagie buns
  • butter flavored cooking spray
  • 1 cup stadium style cheese sauce or cheese wiz (traditionally the cheese wiz goes on a philly, but i like the stadium style cheese sauce a little better)

How To Make philly cheese steak ~ my way

  • Step 1
    Heat 1 Tbsp. oil up in medium skillet. Add onions and mushrooms. Saute until soft. Scrape into a bowl and set aside.
  • Step 2
    Add another tablespoon of oil to pan only if needed. Bring to medium high temp and add steak. Cook until browned. Salt & pepper to taste. Set aside; keep warm.
  • Step 3
    Meanwhile, heat cheese sauce in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Step 4
    Toast buns if desired. I open them, spray them with butter flavored cooking spray and place them under the broiler for about 4 minutes.
