How To Make italian sloppy joes
-
Step 1In a large skillet, add Italian sausage, turn the heat on medium-high, and cook until browned, breaking the meat into small pieces.
-
Step 2Using a slotted spoon, scoop up the meat to a bowl and set aside.
-
Step 3Drain excess fat and keep only 1 Tbsp.
-
Step 4Reduce the heat to medium. Add onions and red peppers; season with salt and pepper. Sauté the veggies for 5 minutes.
-
Step 5Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
-
Step 6Pour in marinara sauce, brown sugar, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and freshly ground mixed peppercorns; return meat to the skillet.
-
Step 7When it starts simmering, place the lid ajar, and simmer gently for 15 minutes or until the sauce thickens – if it bubbles too much, reduce the heat to medium-low.
-
Step 8While the sauce is simmering, butter brioche buns and place them on a baking sheet lined with foil. Toast them under the broiler set on “Low” for 2 minutes.
-
Step 9To assemble… Spoon meat sauce onto bottom buns and place a slice of cheese.
-
Step 10Transfer under the broiler set on “Low” for 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted and starts to bubble.
-
Step 11Remove from the heat, sprinkle on fresh chopped parsley, place top buns and enjoy!
