italian beef (and sausage)
Chicago Italian Beef (and sausage *optional*) I went to Chicago/ Streamwood IL on vacay to hubby’s hometown (being a Texas girl I was looking to put an Italian feed bag on!) and his fave Italian beef and Chicago dog place… Original Nana’s in Streamwood, IL. Well after roadtripping to see hubby’s hometown and food places, I have a darn close hack. I also crossed it with Chicago's famous Portillo’s Italian beef and sausage (granted the Portillo’s Italian beef is not as spicy as Nana’s so I like this combo best) they inspired the brats option. Hubby said it was a dead ringer!

How To Make italian beef (and sausage)
-
Step 1Put in a Crock Pot beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian dressing seasoning, loosely drained (or entire jar) pepperoncini peppers, season salt, garlic, dehydrated minced onion, Italian herbs paste, and milanesa on medium setting for 4.5 hours.
-
Step 2Reduce heat to low for 4.5 hours.
-
Step 330 minutes before done, if using bratwurst, grill the brats until a nice snap in the skin and cooked.
-
Step 4Within 30 minutes prior to serving, place butter in skillet and melt. Add onions and bell peppers to the desired texture. A quick cheat hack is to use the pepper onion frozen blend for this part.
-
Step 5Toast your choice of brioche or any type of sausage roll bun.
-
Step 6Lay a slice or two of provolone cheese (can be placed on top for a more wet bun) in bun. Add a bratwurst. Layer beef over brats, followed by sautéed pepper onion blend. Some enjoy a hot spicy Giardiniera topping, too.
-
Step 7Ladle some of the beef au jus in a small dish for dipping and serve. Enjoy.
