turnip green (or mustard) soup

When it gets Fall time it's Turnip Green and Mustard time. Here is a little twist. Serve with corn bread made with yellow corn meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 2 large cans turnip greens or mustard greens
  • 2 cans 15 oz navy beans
  • 1 large potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cups sliced smoked sausage or chopped cooked ham
  • 1 can 4.5 oz chopped green chiles
  • - water

How To Make turnip green (or mustard) soup

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven, add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil then turn down to med/ low, cover and Cook 45 minutes. May add a little more water to thin. Serve with corn bread.
  • Step 2
    Good cooked with fresh greens.
