I've been making this for over 30 years. I sometimes do a dinner party with fried rice, stir fry vegetables, gingered chicken and store bought won ton soup.

How to Make Sweet & Sour Pork

Step-by-Step

  1. Brown pork slowly in a little oil. Add 1/2 cup water, cover and simmer until tender, about 1 hour.
  2. Drain pineapple, reserving syrup. In a saucepan combine cornstarch and brown sugar. Add reserved syrup, vinegar, soy sauce and salt. Cook stirring constantly over medium heat until thickened.
  3. Pour over hot pork, let rest 10 minutes.
  4. Add pineapple chunks, green pepper and onions cook another 5 minutes until peppers are done to your liking.
  5. Serve with white rice. Cherries are a nice garnish, but are not necessary.
