This sauce recipe was Gramma Juju's and it is amazingly good. Cooked low and slow it becomes more flavorful over the hours which makes it a great crock pot buffet dish. It always gets rave reviews! Get it simmering while you make your meatballs.
You can use premade frozen meatballs but why?? With a food processor to do your chopping and the help of a handy lil' melonball scoop you can make your own with better texture and no added junk.

How to Make swedish meatballs ala gramma juju

  • 1blend all sauce ingredients in a 2 quart saucepan and simmer on low 30 minutes or longer stirring occasionally
  • 2chop or process celery and onion to a fine mince. add to remaining meatball ingredients and mix well. I pick up the whole wad of meat and slam it back down into the bowl a few times to compact everything and keep my meatballs from falling apart
  • 3form meatballs to desired size (a 2T ice cream scoop makes short work of it) place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees till slightly browned 30 to 45 min depending on size
  • 4remove meatballs with spatula or slotted spoon to crockpot or covered baking dish.
  • 5toss gently with prepared sauce and bake or crockpot on low at least 30 minutes stirring occasionaly
