Don't let the simplicity of this recipe fool you. This is comfort food at its best! Not a lot of fancy ingredients, just a lot of great flavor. The star of the show is the ham bone and beans. Serve it with some nice crusty bread, and you will definitely want seconds. This recipe is a creation from my husband, Bill, who also has a love of good home cooking. I am pleased to share it with you. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • - 1 meaty hambone or chopped ham steak
  • - 1 1/2 cups dried northern beans or navy beans
  • - 1/2 onion diced
  • - 1 large rib of celery diced
  • - 1 large carrot, cut into thin rounds
  • - 1 quart of water
  • - 2 teaspoons salt
  • - 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • Pressure cooker method
    Step 1
    Now you can cook this great soup on the stovetop or in a pressure cooker. This is our simple go-to bean and ham bone soup that we have revamped to include the pressure cooker as an option for cooking.
  • Yummy comfort food!
    Step 2
    NO NEED TO SOAK BEANS! Place all of the ingredients above into a large soup pot and cook in the pressure cooker 30 minutes, or on the stovetop on medium low until beans are nice and tender, about 4 hours.
  • Step 3
    Serve with cornbread, or crusty bread of choice. Enjoy!
