We're not sure what magic the root beer does to pork, but it definitely does something and makes the most delicious pulled pork. We loved the sweet, spicy, slightly Asian flair of the sauce. If you have a large roast, the Crock Pot cooking time will have to be adjusted.

Test Kitchen Tips

Our roast was very large. We let it cook on low for 12 hours. Adjust cooking time to suit the size of your roast.

Step 1

Place pork in slow cooker and turn on low. Add in salt, pepper, onion, and 2 cups of root beer.

Step 2

Cook on low for 8 to 12 hours depending on the size of the roast.
Step 3

Cook until the pork is tender and can shred easily.
Step 4

At dinnertime put 2 cups root beer in a saucepan along with an entire 12 oz jar of sweet chili sauce. Add a hot chili sauce or red pepper flakes for an extra kick if you'd like. Bring to a boil.
Step 5

Shred pork.
Step 6

Serve on toasted buns with the sauce.
