Ingredients
- 6 cups water
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup shaoxing wine
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 bunch green onions white and green parts separated
- 4 - inch pieces ginger smashed
- 10 cloves garlic smashed
- 20 - stems of cilantro leaves reserved for garnish
- 1 - orange peel sliced
- 2 - whole star anise pods
- 5 pounds pork butt
How To Make red cooked pork

Step 1Combine water, soy sauce, wine, brown sugar, white parts of the green onions, ginger, garlic, cilantro stems,orange slices, and star anise to a large pot. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer and simmer 10 minutes.

Step 2Add the pork and simmer for 4 hours turning pork every 30 minutes.Remove the pork from the liquid and strain the sauce discarding the solids. Serve with sauce over top and garnish with cilantro and green parts of the green onions.
