Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1 lb
    ground pork
  • 1 c
    finely chopped onion
  • 4
    garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 12 oz
    beer
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 1 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    cumin
  • 2 Tbsp
    beef bouillon
  • 2 tsp
    oregano
  • 2 tsp
    paprika
  • 2 tsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp
    hot sauce
  • 1 tsp
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp
    warm water
  • 1/2 tsp
    coriander, ground

How to Make Prize Winning Chili

Step-by-Step

  1. In large saucepan or dutch oven, brown half the meat; pour off fat.
  2. Remove meat.
  3. Brown remaining meat; pour off all fat except 2 tablespoon.
  4. Add onion, garlic; cook and stir until tender.
  5. Add meat and remaining ingredients except flour, cornmeal and warm water.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer covered 2 hours.
  8. Stir together flour and cornmeal; add warm water.
  9. Mix well.
  10. Stir into chili mixture.
  11. Cook covered 20 minutes longer.
  12. Serve hot.
  13. Makes 2 quarts.
