pork chops with kraut

This is an old recipe from the 60s. My mother-in-law was Polish and a wonderful cook and she made this (or one similar). I had a good friend was was from Hungary and she made one as well so I combined the two and came up with this one. Hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients
- 4 - thick pork chops
- 2 to 3 cups sauerkraut
- 4 - tart apples
- 2 - onions, sliced
- 1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 to 2 tablespoons caraway seeds (optional)
- dash salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup water
How To Make pork chops with kraut

Step 1Season chops with salt and pepper and brown in a skillet.

Step 2Peel and slice apples.

Step 3Pour half the sauerkraut (add caraway seeds to sauerkraut) into a oven proof casserole, cover with apples, top with onion slices then the remaining sauerkraut. Sprinkle on the brown sugar.

Step 4Arrange chops on top, pour 1/2 cup water into skillet and stir to get all the drippings loose, pour over chops.

Step 5Cover and bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour. Remove cover and cook an additional 15 minutes to brown the meat.
