Ingredients For perfect pork carnitas

  • 4 1/2 lb
    pork shoulder roast, extra fat taken off
  • 5 clove
    garlic, peeled
  • 2
    limes, juice of
  • 2
    oranges, juice of
  • 2
    sweet onions, cut into quarters
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 2 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 2 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper, ground
  • corn tortillas
  • avocado
  • tomatoes, chopped
  • cabbage, shredded
  • salsa

How To Make perfect pork carnitas

    Mix spices together. Rub spice mix all over the roast.

    Put pork roast, onions, garlic, and both kinds of juice into the slow cooker.

    Close the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-9 hours, or until tender. You can shorten the cooking time if you cook on high, approx 5-6 hours.

    Let pork roast sit for 20 minutes. Break apart and shred the roast putting back into crock pot with the juices on warm.

    Put oven on broil. Put the shredded pork on a large cookie sheet and broil about 3-4 minutes to add a slight crispness.
