Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce, reduced sodium
- 1/4 teaspoon salt & pepper
- 2 pounds ground pork (not sausage)
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 large onion, cut into 1" pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil, extra-virgin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce, low-sodium
- 1 tablespoon coarse grain mustard
- 6 hamburger buns, split & toasted

Step 1In a large bowl, combine worcestershire, salt & pepper. Add pork; mix well. Shape prok mixture into 12 - 4" patties. Sprinkle 1/3 C cheese on each of 6 patties; top each with remaining patty. Pinch edges of top & bottom patties together, sealing well. Cover & chill for at least 1 hour.

Step 2CARAMELIZED ONION SAUCE: In large skillet, cook onion & garlic in hot oil over medium heat, about 10 minutes or until onion is golden, stirring occasionally. Add chili powder, cook & stir for 1 minute. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce & mustard. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, 2 minutes. Cool to room temperature. TIP: Can be made in advance. Transfer cooled mixture to an airtight container, cover & chill for up to 2 weeks. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Step 3CHARCOAL GRILL: Grill patties on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 14 - 18 minutes or until done, turning once halfway through grilling. GAS GRILL: Preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place patties on grill rack over heat. Cover & grill as above.

Step 4Serve burgers in toasted buns topped with caramelized onion sauce.
