Years ago,my sister gave me a Avon International cookbook and I found this recipe in it ,it has become a family favorite. This is the original recipe but I often use shrimp or chicken instead of pork. Just as delicious.

Ingredients

  • - 1 1/2 c long grain rice
  • - salt
  • - 1/4 c butter or margarine
  • - 1 lb lean pork,cut into 1/4 inch wide strips
  • - 2 onions,sliced
  • - 1 red bell pepper,chopped
  • - 1 carrot,shredded
  • - 1/2 c green peas
  • - 1/4 cucumber,chopped
  • - 1/4 c soy sauce
  • - 1 t. curry powder
  • - pinch of 5 spice powder
  • - black pepper,freshly ground
  • - 1 egg
  • - 1 t. cold water
  • - salt and pepper
  • - 1 t. butter or margarine
  • - tomato wedges,green onion curls,for garnish. optional

How To Make nasi goreng (indonesian fried rice)

  • Step 1
    Cook rice. Set aside. Melt butter add pork, cook 5-8 mins. till golden add onions cook 10 mins. Add vegetables, cook 5 mins. Stir in soy sauce and spices. Stir in rice until combined and hot. In a bowl,beat egg with water,salt and pepper. Melt butter in a small skillet add egg mixture. Cook gently till underside is golden. Turn and brown other side. Slide onto a plate. Cut into 1-/2 inch strips. Spoon rice into a warmed serving dish,top with egg strips. Garnish with tomato wedges and green onion curls.
