Most of us have seen the Banquet Homestyle Bakes, the complete meals in the box? Yeah they are ok, fairly good but LOADED with salt and preservatives. Oh and they are expensive SO my solution is this

prep time 30 Min
cook time 30 Min
method ---
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 4-6 medium russet potatoes
  • 1-2 cup chopped cooked (leftover) ham
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup french onion dip

How To Make homestyle bakes

  • Step 1
Cook potatoes in a pan with a few Tbsp of oil and salt and pepper to taste. They don't have to be crispy.
  • Step 2
Sauce: Make a roux using 2T butter (melted) then whisk in 2T flour, cook for 1min stirring constantly Add 1 1/2c milk slowly, stirring with the whisk the whole time, let cook for about 5 minutes to thicken, add 1c shredded cheese and 1/4 of onion dip (yes the soup mixed with sour cream!) Mix until cheese is melted, put everything in a baking pan sprayed with non stick spray and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
sprinkle shredded cheese on top and bake 5 more minutes until melted and bubbly. YUM
