1 1/2 lb
ham steaks, cut 1" thick
2 Tbsp
light brown sugar
1/4 tsp
cinnamon
1/8 tsp
ground cloves
2 tsp
instant coffee
1 c
boiling water

How to Make HAM STEAK WITH RED EYE GRAVY

Step-by-Step

  • 1Trim off fat from ham and dice the fat (use butter if there is no fat). Cook fat until you get 2 tablespoons drippings, discard solids. In small bowl combine sugar and cloves, rub into both sides of ham steak. Add to skillet and cook until brown (approximately 2 minutes). Keep warm (cover with foil). In measuring cup, dissolve coffee in boiling water, add to skillet and cook about 10 minutes. (Must be syrupy.) Pour gravy over ham and serve.
