I AM A RECIPE HOUND, I FOUND THIS IN A MAGAZINE QUITE A LONG TIME AGO...(ONCE APON A TIME..LOL)..ANYWAY...IT LOOKED GOOD, AND IT DEFINITELY IS GOOD...AND IT'S EASY TO MAKE AS WELL...

Ingredients

  • 12 medium
    should be small leeks (trimmed of all but 1 inch of greens well rinsed)
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 12
    thin slices of boiled ham
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    whipping cream
  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 2
    egg yolks
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 c
    grated cheese (combination of swiss and parmesan preferred)

How to Make HAM AND CHEESE WITH LEEKS (GRATIN SAVOYARD)

Step-by-Step

  1. WITH A SHARP KNIFE, CUT SMALL CROSS INTO THE GREEN OF LEEKS...

    RINSE THOROUGHLY UNDER COLD RUNNING WATER...

    ARRANGE IN A SINGLE LAYER IN A LARGE HEAVY SKILLET.

    SPRINKLE WITH SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE AND DOT WITH BUTTER...

    ADD WATER TO COVER..

    PLACE OVER LOW HEAT, PARTIALLY COVER AND POACH UNTIL TENDER, (APPROXIMATELY 20 - 25 MINUTES...

    DRAIN THOROUGHLY ON PAPER TOWELS...
  2. PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 375 DEGREES

    LIGHTLY BUTTER SHALLOW BAKING DISH

    WRAP EACH LEEK IN ONE SLICE OF HAM AND ARRANGE IN A SINGLE LAYER IN PREPARED DISH...
  3. COMBINE MILK, CREAM, EGGS, YOLKS AND SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE IN A MEDIUM BOWL AND BLEND THOROUGHLY...

    POUR OVER THE LEEKS AND TOP WITH GRATED CHEESES...
  4. BAKE 45 MINUTES, OR UNTIL TOP IS BROWNED AND KNIFE INSERTED NEAR CENTER COMES OUT CLEAN...

    SERVE IMMEDIATELY...MMMM-GOOD...
