Ingredients

  • 1 pound hot bulk pork sausage
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 cup regular grits
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 14 ounces jar of pizza sauce
  • 10 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, chopped

How To Make grits italiano

  • Step 1
    Brown sausage and ground beef in a large skillet, stirring until it crumbles; drain well.
  • Step 2
    Cook grits according to package directions; spoon into a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish.
  • Step 3
    Combine pizza sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  • Step 4
    Layer half each of pizza sauce, meat, green pepper, onion and cheese over grits.
  • Step 5
    Repeat layers, omitting remaining cheese.
  • Step 6
    Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Add remaing cheese and bake uncovered, an additional 5 minutes.
