This is another MIL recipe. Adjust amounts according to your taste. This is a rough recipe. She really doesn't measure anything. with 1/2 cup white rice WW 12 points

Ingredients

  • 1 pound red beans (or you can use kidney beans)
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 cups water or stock
  • 1 - hambone
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • - large dash of hot sauce
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • dash garlic powder
  • 1/2 pound cubed ham
  • 1 pound sliced sausage ( i use kielbasa or andoulli)
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion

How To Make donna's red beans n rice

  • Step 1
    Boil 1 Minute a 1 Pound Bag of Red Beans In 1 Cup Water. Let Sit, for 1 hour. pour the water off the beans and add 4 cups of water or stock.
  • Step 2
    Add Ham Bone, 1 t Worcestershire sauce, large dash of Tabasco, dash of garlic powder, 2 bay leaves.
  • Step 3
    Saute 1 clove garlic, 1 c chopped celery and 1 c chopped onions. Add to beans. Add pepper to taste.
  • Step 4
    Simmer several hours.
  • Step 5
    Saute 1/2 pound of cubed ham meat and 3/4 to 1 lb sausage, sliced (I would use a kielbasa or andoulli). Add to beans during the last hour of cooking.
  • Step 6
    Serve over hot cooked rice. Freezes well.
