My grandmother used to make it - then my mom got the recipe...It was a favorite of ours for years and still is....so simple too. Sorry I couldn't add the prep time-this is a really old recipe so things may vary a bit now with the new appliances altho I still stick to what it says. Maybe it is because it gives me time to reminisce!!!

Ingredients
- 4 cups onion, chopped
- 4 cups celery, chopped
- 4 cups water
- 1 can bean sprouts (la choy)
- 1 1/2 pounds pork steak, cut into small pieces
- 1 1/2 pounds round steak, cut into small pieces
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch or flour
How To Make chop suey

Step 1Boil celery and onions in water for 30 min.

Step 2Chop meat into small pieces and fry in a small amount of oil til brown. Pour into onion & celery mixture. Add soy sauce and brown sauce. Simmer 45 min to 1 hr.

Step 3Mix cornstarch (or flour) into a little water and pour into mixture to thicken. Cook 10 min. Serve over steamed rice.
