bonnie's ham slices with pineapple and cherries

This is an old recipe from the 50's that we used to get dinner on the table in a flash. It can be done in less than 30 minutes, too. You can put your own spin on this dish by adding what you like. We like it with Cilantro Rice or mashed potatoes and a green vegetable. You can use pineapple chunks or crushed pineapple, or add other fruits. My son used to pick the cherries out of the dish when he was little, now I notice his little boys do the same thing! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 slices of ham quartered
  • 8 ounces crushed pineapple and juice
  • about a dozen maraschino cherries, stems removed
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter

How To Make bonnie's ham slices with pineapple and cherries

  • Ham slice
    Step 1
    One or two slices of ham.
  • About one inch of water in a saucepan
    Step 2
    Put about an inch of water in a medium size saucepan.
  • Quartered slices of ham in water
    Step 3
    Add the quartered ham slices, make sure they are just covered with water. When the water boils, simmer the ham slices about 5 minutes.
  • Cherries
    Step 4
    While you are waiting on the ham, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove the stems from the cherries and pat dry with paper towels..

    Remove the ham slices from the water, and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Ham slices in the baking dish

    Arrange the ham slices in a kitchen sprayed baking dish.
  • Brown sugar
    Step 7
    Pour the brown sugar over the ham slices. Add nutmeg.
  • Pineapple
    Step 8
    Add the crushed pineapple.

  • Just baked
    Step 10
    Dot with the butter. Pop the baking dish into the oven. Bake uncovered in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 15 or 20 minutes. You want it to just start to brown
  • Serve with your favorite sides

    Serve the slices with sides of your choice. This is really good with Cilantro Rice or mashed potatoes.
