Homemade pizza is just better! Family recipe adapted from when my sister took Home Ec her 8th grade year. For my WW friends, 8SP when divided by 8 (5SP if no cheese). When divided by 6, 11 SP (7SP if no cheese).
1To Make Crust: Mix water and yeast, let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, and shortening. Mix well. Add 1 1/2 cups flour, more if needed to make the dough firm enough to handle. Kneed until smooth. Flatten, pull, and stretch to fit pizza round. (I use a baking stone and roll it out directly on the stone.) Let rise 5 minutes.
2To Make Sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in a small sauce plan. Bring to a boil then reduce to simmer. Simmer until flavors blend, about 10 minutes.
3To Make Pizza: Pour sauce onto crust, spread evenly over pizza all the way to the edge. Add favorite toppings. Tip: Put the cheese over the rest of the toppings. When the cheese melts it keeps your toppings from rolling off. Bake for 25 minutes in a 425 degree oven.
