This pizza recipe is the one Dad always made in my home, growing up. Of course, he didn't use a recipe, but I think I've figured it out pretty well. It tastes exactly like his.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, extra virgin
  • 2-3 teaspoons fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28) ounce crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

How To Make grammy's new york style pizza sauce

  • Step 1
Lightly sauté the minced garlic in olive oil, being careful not to burn the garlic (it will get bitter). Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, oregano & basil. Add the red pepper if you like it spicy.
  • Step 2
Cook on low (bubbles should barely break the surface) for about 20 minutes or until oil comes to the top. Stir it occasionally so it doesn't burn on the bottom.
  • Step 3
Use it immediately or store in the refrigerator or freezer.
