This awesome dish was created by me and might I add it was fantastic. So creamy and flavorful. I decided to add Swiss cheese to the white sauce, and am I ever glad I did. It went well with the tuna and added a delicious flavor to the sauce.

My son was my inspiration for this dish and he loves Swiss Cheese. I decided to also add some to the topping.

I love cooking in cast iron and it turned out fantastic & not a lot of dirty dishes and that's always an added bonus!

I do hope you try this casserole, I don't believe you will be disappointed.

How to Make ~ Swiss Tuna Noodle Casserole ~ From Scratch!

Step-by-Step

  1. Boil your noodles and drain. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.

In a large oven proof skillet over medium heat, melt butter. ( I use my 9 inch iron skillet. ) - Once bubbly add the celery, mushrooms, onion and garlic. ( I added a pinch of salt & pepper. ) - Stir and cook until tender and mushrooms are no longer leaving off moisture.
  3. Stir in the flour to coat the vegetables and cook for another minute. Make sure not to burn.
  4. Start whisking in the milk and cream. Bring to a boil, then simmer until thickened. Stir in the cheese and keep stirring until melted.
  5. Stir in the dill, salt, pepper, parsley, mustard, lemon pepper seasoning, peas and tuna. Combine well.

Stir in noodles and simmer a few more minutes then remove from heat.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the crumbs and cheese and sprinkle evenly over the tuna mixture.

Place in oven and bake for 10 - 15 minutes or until bubbly. If not brown, place under broiler for another couple minutes until golden.
  7. Carefully remove from oven and i let it set up for a few minutes. May need additional Salt & pepper.

Now, dig in! It's delicious...I loved the addition of Swiss cheese as it went well with the tuna.
