I usually drain about 1/3 - 1/2 of the liquid from the cans of diced tomatoes to avoid the need for corn starch. And I add extra red pepper flakes for extra spicy flavor.

extra virgin olive oil
3-4 clove
garlic, minced
2 14.8 oz
cans diced tomatoes-with basil, garlic and oregano
1/2 c
fresh chopped basil
1/2 tsp
crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp
each onion and garlic powder
1/8 - 1/4 c
minced onion
1/4 c
1 box
penne pasta
3/4 pt
heavy cream
2-3 Tbsp
1/4 c
shredded parmesan cheese (optional)
2 Tbsp
corn starch (optional if sauce is thin)

How to Make Penne a la Vodka


  • 1Cook penne pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  • 2In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and onions cooking until tender (1-2 minutes).
  • 3Add cooked garlic and onions to a large sauce pan with diced tomatoes, chopped basil, red pepper flakes, garlic powder and onion powder. Simmer 15 minutes.
  • 4Add vodka and sugar and simmer 15 more minutes.
  • 5Add heavy cream and cook 10 more minutes. If the sauce is thin, add the Parmesan cheese a little bit at a time, and corn starch until the sauce is desired creamy consistency.
