The best tuna casserole I have ever had. I thought tuna casserole was always supposed to taste like this!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons fine chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cans tuna
  • 1/4 pound cashew nuts
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 - 5 oz. can chow mein noodles
  • 1/2 cup mayonaise
  • - few drops of hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon lemon rind, grated
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice

How To Make mom's tuna casserole

  • Step 1
    Melt butter, add onion and brown. add flour and cook for a couple minutes. Add milk slowly whisking until thickened. Add remaining ingredients. Except noodles. If more liquid is needed add chicken broth.
  • Step 2
    Turn into a 2 quart casserole dish. Bake 375* for 20-25 minutes. Top with chow mein noodles before serving.
