This is one of my favorite comfort meals growing up. I could smell it cooking and my mouth would be watering before I even sat down to dinner! I get that same feeling now when I make if for my family. Hope you enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef - extra lean works great
  • 1/4 cup onion - diced - more if you like
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can condensed beef broth (10.5 oz)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms (3 oz) drained
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • - hot buttered wide noodles

How To Make mock stroganoff

  • Step 1
Set noodles to cook while you prepare sauce. I usually prepare an entire package, but prepare what you think you will need.
  • Step 2
In large skillet, cook meat and onion until meat is lightly browned. Drain if needed.
  • Step 3
Combine flour, sugar, salt, basil, garlic powder and pepper. Sprinkle over meat. Stir in broth and tomato paste. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 4
Stir in mushrooms and sour cream. Heat through but do not boil.
  • Step 5
    Serve as sauce over noodles.
