Named for my late mother who taught me this recipe. At holidays and family reunions it was always requested. This is the only mac and cheese I ever ate until I left home and it remains my family's personal favorite to this day.

How To Make mary's home made macaroni & cheese
-
1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. This dish does not make well in the microwave.
-
2Pour just enough milk to cover bottom of large casserole dish.
-
3Making 3 layers, alternate between cooked pasta and mixed cheese. Top layer should be cheese.
-
4Mix hand crushed saltines with garlic powder, black pepper and melted butter, spoon over top of casserole, covering evenly.
-
5Bake on middle rack in oven until cheese is melted and topping is golden brown. Check after 15 minutes and add more milk if needed to keep pasta from drying out, but not enough to make it saucey.
-
6Remove from oven, let sit 5 minutes, serve and enjoy!
