mary's home made macaroni & cheese
(1 RATING)
Named for my late mother who taught me this recipe. At holidays and family reunions it was always requested. This is the only mac and cheese I ever ate until I left home and it remains my family's personal favorite to this day.

Ingredients
- 1 box ziti or muller's ready cut pasta, cooked aldente
- 1/2 package roughly crushed saltine crackers

How To Make mary's home made macaroni & cheese
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. This dish does not make well in the microwave.
-
Step 2Pour just enough milk to cover bottom of large casserole dish.
-
Step 3Making 3 layers, alternate between cooked pasta and mixed cheese. Top layer should be cheese.
-
Step 4Mix hand crushed saltines with garlic powder, black pepper and melted butter, spoon over top of casserole, covering evenly.
-
Step 5Bake on middle rack in oven until cheese is melted and topping is golden brown. Check after 15 minutes and add more milk if needed to keep pasta from drying out, but not enough to make it saucey.
-
Step 6Remove from oven, let sit 5 minutes, serve and enjoy!
