Ingredients

  • 1 c
    lentils, dry
  • 1 c
    basmati rice
  • 1 c
    elbow macaroni
  • 2 large
    onions
  • 4 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 c
    chopped tomatoes or 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp
    crushed red pepper flakes
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Koshari

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook lentils in 4 cups of salted water. Bring to a boil and simmer covered 15 - 25 minutes or until tender.
  2. Add rice to the lentils (still in their water) until rice is cooked, adding water as needed.
  3. In a separate pot, cook macaroni, rinse and drain.
  4. Fry onions and garlic until golden. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper and crushed red pepper flakes, simmer 10 - 20 minutes. Mix everything together and serve.
