My favorite of comfort foods - Macaroni and Cheese! This recipe is classic, and quite simple. But not short on flavor. It does have a little "kick" to it with the addition of cayenne pepper. But feel free to lessen, or omit it all together if you'd like.

elbow macaroni (i used large elbows)

shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 tsp
ground black pepper
1/4 tsp
cayenne pepper

How to Make Homestyle Baked Mac & Cheese


  • 1Cook your pasta and set aside (keep warm).
  • 2Over a low-medium heat on stove top, melt your butter.
  • 3Whisk in your flour, a little at a time.
  • 4Then, slowly add in the milk. Continue to whisk until creamy. Allow to cook for about 5 minutes.
  • 5Next - add in your black pepper, red pepper, and salt.
  • 6Stir in half of your cheddar cheese.
  • 7Fold in the cooked pasta to your cheese mixture.
  • 8Pour in to a 3 quart lightly greased baking pan.
  • 9Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat.
  • 10Top the macaroni with the remaining cup of cheddar cheese and bread crumbs.
  • 11Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
