I loved Hamburger Helper as a kid, but over the years, it's become a mere shadow of it's former (1970's) self. This recipe is so good, the combination of flavors is just like the old Betty Crocker from when I was a kid, except creamier and even better!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • ground pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups dry macaroni noodles or other similar sized pasta
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 cups grated mild cheddar cheese

  • Step 1
    In a deep, heavy skillet, brown the ground beef and drain off the excess fat. Return to heat.
  • Step 2
    Add in the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper and toss with the ground beef.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the pasta.
  • Step 4
    Pour in the beef broth and milk. Add the Worcestershire. Mix in the cornstarch and sugar.
  • Step 5
    Bring to a simmer. Stir in the cheese and mix until smooth and melted into liquid.
  • Step 6
    Turn heat to low. Cover and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 7
    Remove from the heat, plate, and serve!
