garlic spaghetti

My Grandma made the BEST spaghetti in the world, not much sauce and no meat. This is a close second to the "world's best". I saw this on the Food Network and made a few changes. I lightened up on the olive oil and butter and added sugar(thank you Grandma...anytime you use tomato you have to use sugar). I serve this with garlic, tomato cheese bread and a small tossed green salad. It's a hit with the family.

Ingredients

  • 9 - cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup olive oil, extra virgin
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 15 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil
  • - grated parmesan for garnish

How To Make garlic spaghetti

  • Step 1
In a small saucepan, cook the garlic in the olive oil for 30 minutes on low heat. Stir occasionally to keep the garlic from drying out.
  • Step 2
In a medium saucepan, add the butter, sugar and tomatoes, stir until well blended and the butter is melted.
  • Step 3
Stir in the garlic oil(with the minced garlic) and season with salt and pepper. Allow the flavors to meld for 10 minutes or more. Toss with the spaghetti and serve garnished with basil and Parmesean.
