on the table in about an hour , add a simple salad & some bread or rolls & dinner is done ( even better reheated the next day )

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dry elbow pasta ( cooked but firm )
  • 1-1 1/4 pounds ground beef ( or meat loaf mix )
  • 1 can campbells condensed tomato soup
  • 1 jar beef gravy (heinz)
  • 1 tablespoon "better than bullion" beef base
  • 1 can petite diced tomatoes drained ( drain but keep liquid )
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 medium yellow or white onion diced medium
  • 1 medium carrot peeled and shredded
  • 2 large ribs celery diced medium
  • 1/2 - red and 1/2 green med/small bell peppers diced medium
  • 1/4 cup red wine (optional ) you can sub. the liquid drained from diced toms.
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce of choice( i prefer franks for this recipe )
  • 1 teaspoon 1 heavy tea. each dried thyme & dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil ( or any oil )
  • 2 tablespoons + 1 heavy pinch salt(kosher)
  • - black pepper to taste
  • - grated romano cheese as desired

How To Make g-man's elbow goulash

  • Step 1
    bring pasta water to a boil with 2 Tbl. salt but don't add pasta until sauce is simmering for last 15 min.
  • Step 2
    in high sided 12" saute pan over med.high heat saute peppers, celery ,carrot and onion with a good pinch of salt and 2 Tbl. of olive oil until onion is translucent(about 5 min.).
  • Step 3
    add burger and cook untill done thru and browned slightly(about 10 min.).
  • Step 4
    add Tom. paste and beef base & cook for about 3 min.
  • Step 5
    add wine and let cook another 2 min.
  • Step 6
    add diced toms. Thyme & Basil , soup , beef gravy , Worcestershire & hot sauce.
  • Step 7
    reduce heat and simmer gently for 15 min.-
  • Step 8
    after sauce has simmered 5 min. add pasta to boiling water, boil until almost but not quite done (time depends on how soft you usually cook your pasta but about 10 min.).
  • Step 9
    drain (but don't rinse) pasta and add to simmering sauce
  • Step 10
    simmer for another 5 min. stiring often
  • Step 11
    if sauce seems to dry add retained tomato liquid one Tbl at a time until sauce is as wet looking as you like.
  • Step 12
    serve with fresh ground black pepper & grated Romano cheese to taste
