This is a sauce that is better when cooked for a few hours. I taste it every so often and adjust the seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 - medium yellow onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 - celery stalk, coarsely chopped
  • 1 - carrot, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound mild, sweet italian sausage cut in bite size pieces
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (28 oz) hunts tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup parsley chiffonade
  • 8 - fresh basil leaves, chiffonade
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • - greek seasoning and oregano to taste

How To Make family pasta sauce

  • Step 1
Add extra-virgin olive oil to 6 qt. pot. When hot, add the onion and garlic and saute over medium heat for 7-8 min until soft. Add celery and carrot and saute for 4-5 min on lower heat. Add meat & turn up the heat. Stir frequently, breaking up lumps and adding all the herbs and spices.
  • Step 2
When meat has cooked, add the tomato products. Cook on low heat about 30 min to get sauce to thicken. Taste and re-season as needed. You may want to add 1/4 cup freshly grated Romano cheese as the last ingredient.
  • Step 3
Serve over the cooked pasta you have chosen. Accompany with the salad and bread of your choice and dinner is served.
