Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow spaghetti
- salt
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- fresh basil, for serving
How To Make elbow spaghetti with tomato, onion, and butter

Step 1Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the salt. Add the pasta and cook for about 15 minutes until the pasta is almost done. Drain over a bowl and reserve 2 cups of the pasta water.

Step 2Place 1 Tbsp butter in a saucepan. Add the onion and saute for 5 minutes.

Step 3Add the tomato paste and 1 1/2 cups of pasta water.

Step 4Add the pasta and continue to cook until the pasta is covered with the sauce.

Step 5Add the balsamic vinegar, remaining butter, and Parmesan cheese. Cook and stir for 3 more minutes. Use more of the pasta water if to dry.

Step 6Serve garnished with basil and more Parmesan.
