  • 3 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1
    onion, diced
  • 3
    minced garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried oregano
  • 1 Tbsp
    dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 12 oz
    vermicelli, uncooked
  • 28 oz
    crushed tomatoes
  • ·
    parmesan cheese

How to Make Easy Spaghetti


  1. Put olive oil in a skillet that about 12" wide.
  2. Peel and chop onion.
  3. Add to skillet and cook on medium heat as you peel and mince garlic.
  4. Add garlic to skillet; stir.
  5. Cook several more minutes to allow the vegetables to soften and give up a lot of their moisture.
  6. Stir occasionally and add oregano, basil, red pepper and crushed tomatoes.
  7. Simmer the mixture uncovered.
  8. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil for your spaghetti.
  9. Salt the water and add 8-12 ounces of spaghetti.
  10. Cook until it is just barely tender, probably 2 minutes less than they suggest on the package.
  11. Drain but don't rinse.
  12. Toss with sauce and serve on plates, top with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
