My cousin Jan gave me this recipe. Now my kids refuse to eat boxed macaroni and cheese. We have played abit with using different kinds of cheeses, we like it with an addition of feta cheese. But here's the basic original recipe. Try it. You'll like it!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dry macaroni (any shape), cooked and drained
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon pepper (we like it spicey so we use ground red pepper)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (not margerine)
  • 8 ounces velvetta, cubed
  • 16 ounces extra sharp cheddar, grated
  • 1 pound diced ham, or smoked sausage

How To Make easy peasy macaroni and cheesey

  • Step 1
In a saucepan cook milk, cornstarch, and pepper over low heat until it just starts to thicken.
  • Step 2
Add Butter and stir in until it melts. Then Add sharp cheese slowly until melted and incorperated into the milk mixture. Then add in the velvetta cheese and stir until melted.
  • Step 3
Mix with noodles. Add ham or sausage if you like. Bake at 350* for 45 minutes or until bubbly and lightly browned on top
