This is a cheesy and creamy sauce that, when poured over pillowy gnocchi, makes a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound homemade or store-bought gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh chives, for serving

How To Make creamy cheese sauce for gnocchi

  • Step 1
    Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil to cook the gnocchi.
  • Step 2
    While the water is coming to a boil, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the garlic and shallots and saute 1 minute.
  • Step 3
    Add the heavy cream and mascarpone and cook until the cheese melts.
  • Step 4
    Lower the heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Add the Gruyere and Parmesan and whisk until fully melted.
  • Step 5
    Throw the gnocchi into the boiling water and cook until it floats, then 2 more minutes.
  • Step 6
    Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce and cook 2 more minutes. Serve with the chives sprinkled on top.
