~ cheesy pasta & ham bake ~

Delicious as is...sometimes I add veggies to this casserole as well. Chicken is a great addition instead of ham. A tasty comfort meal. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups uncooked pasta - your choice - i use penne or rigatoni
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 3 tablespoons each - butter & flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • pinch - nutmeg
  • 3 - 4 - grinds, fresh black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh shredded, swiss cheese
  • 1 cup fresh shredded, colby cheese
  • 2 cups cooked, cubed ham
  • 1/2 cup italian bread crumbs
  • 1/2 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

How To Make ~ cheesy pasta & ham bake ~

  • Step 1
    Cook your pasta and drain. Just al dente. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Preheat oven yo 375 degree F. Grease a medium casserole dish. Set aside. In a large saucepan, over medium heat - melt butter. Add onion and garlic and cook a few minutes or until onion is tender, stirring often. Stir in the flour and continue stirring for a couple minutes.
  • Step 3
    Whisk in the milk and cream. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened, stirring continuously. Stir in mustard, nutmeg and pepper. Stir in the Swiss and Colby cheeses. Once melted stir in the ham and pasta.
  • Step 4
    Spread mixture into prepared dish.
  • Step 5
    In a small bowl. combine the crumbs, butter and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle evenly over the top of casserole and bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.
  • Step 6
    Salt and pepper to taste as serving.
