1Melt butter and cook onion 4-5 minutes. Add garlic & saute 1-2 mins. Put aside in a bowl. Now cook ground beef, until no longer pink. Drain off any fat. Add onion and garlic to beef. Next add all other ingredients - except cheese.
2Cover tightly and simmer until macaroni is done, stirring occassionally. Takes about 25-30 mins.
When done add your grated cheddar cheese. It will melt nicely! (Take out the bay leaf!!)
3Note: Sauteed fresh mushrooms may also be added! (I did not try them, but I will next time. It would be a good addition to this dish.
