This is the basic recipe for creamy macaroni and cheese. It's so simple, but so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash white pepper
  • 8 ounces dry macaroni noodles
  • - salt & pepper to taste

How To Make traditional creamy macaroni & cheese

  • Step 1
    Cook macaroni according to package directions. Make cheese sauce while macaroni is cooking.
  • Step 2
    Melt butter in bottom of a small sauce pan. Add flour and stir with a wire whisk until smooth. Add milk and cheddar cheese.
  • Step 3
    Stir over medium-medium high heat until smooth and thickened. This takes about 10 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Drain macaroni noodles and return to pot. Stir in hot cheese sauce until well combined. Add salt & pepper to taste if desired.
